Summertime Sequins

There's something you should know... sequins are for life and not just for Christmas ok?!

When faced with the task of finding a special dress for my parents joint 60th party; I knew I wanted something super glam. My Mum is such a glamour puss and I wanted to make sure I did her proud! I hunted for weeks and couldn't find anything but then I spotted this amazing sequin maxi and I was thrilled when I saw it was in the sale, it fit perfectly and I was able to find the perfect heels and bag to match.

Although grey isn't a colour you instantly think of when you think of summer; I think the dress was the perfect choice for our gorgeous garden extravaganza.

Powder Pink

Hello Lovelies!

Look at me blogging outfits again! It feels really good to be back. It's been quite a struggle to find the motivation and I also forgot how to pose in front of the camera! One of my favourite things in the world is to put outfits together so I am so happy my mojo is creeping back!

I mentioned in a previous post my love of dusty, salmon pinks and I thought I'd put my money where my mouth is a build a look around those colours and voila - here it is!

I must pay special attention to this Topshop duster coat which is a UK size 10. I've said it before and I'll say it again; ignore the size labels and try it on if you like it.

Off the Shoulder

If you read my last post you'll have seen me banging on about the fact you should ignore the size labels in clothes and try things on. The dress I'm wearing in this post is a clear example of why you should do this.

Whilst trying on a load of RI Plus outfits in the River Island Style Studio; I spotted this bardot maxi dress in their main range. I picked out a size 18 and I could just tell it was going to fit. Low and behold... I was right! 

Sadly this dress appears to have sold out online but if you have a River Island store near by; have a hunt around as you might just be lucky! I found this dress before I headed off on holiday and it was the perfect dress for my last night in Tuscany - I love wearing white when I have a tan!

Ignore the labels

Raise your hand if you wish you could shop in Topshop. Who would dress in head to toe Zara if they could fit into their clothes? I know I would love to be able to buy clothes from these stores on a regular basis but sadly as a plus size girl; they don't generally cater for the fat!

We have come a long way in terms of the amount of places we can shop but sometimes I trawl the straight size shops online weeping at the array of beautiful clothes available to the skinnier girls. I always spot things online that say 'Oversize' or 'XL' but because I have NO clue what my measurements are I never know if they are going to fit me or not! 

I do most of my shopping online but when I do hit the shops - I always look round stores that generally don't cater for my chub body. Why do I do this you might ask? Well, you never know what you might find! Shops such as Monki, H&M, COS and even Topshop, Zara and River Island always have gems hidden away that fit my size 20 body.

Here are my top tips for shopping in a store that doesn't normally cater to your size:

1. Ignore the labels! - If you looked in my wardrobe you'd see sizes ranging from a size UK 10 to size 28! Companies are mad, their sizing can sometimes be well off. Head into a shop you've always loved and get stuck in. 

2. Try shit on - How will you know if that size 12 oversize jacket fits or not?

You'll never know if you don't try! I bought this Topshop jacket the other day, I fit into a UK10. A TEN! 

3. Cut the label out - If the size label is such an issue you for you, cut it out! You won't have to look at it every time you put it on. Personally the size on the label doesn't mean anything to me, I'm just concerned whether I look fly in it or not!

4. Figure your measurements out - I need to follow my own advice on this one! If you know what your bust, hips and waist measurements are you'll be able to look at the size chart that comes with the garment & you'll be able to have a clearer idea whether it'll fit or not.

5. Keep your eyes peeled for - items with stretch, elasticated waist lines, boxy cuts, the oversize fit and jackets such as kimonos and dusters that you don't need to do up. River Island have always been my go to for jackets and outerwear, way before they bought out a plus size range.

Pink Champagne Edit

There's a fashion blogger over on Instagram that I am obsessed with. Her name is Alicia Roddy and my god: she's a babe.

What I love about Alicia is the fact she has such a strong 'brand' identity. I now actually walk around a shop and think "Alicia would wear that" ... kinda creepy but kinda sweet no? I mean, you lot do it to me with anything pineapple related or Aperol related and I love it, so yeah... Alicia if you ever read this; I think you're a babe, your highlight is amazing & you've inspired this edit.

If you check her Instagram out you'll see that she is obsessed with pinks/dirty pink/salmon/rose type colours and it got me thinking. We don't often see a lot of these types of pinks in plus size fashion. I've followed her for over a year and I've been on the look out for these shades and it wasn't until this season that I actually found some great plus size options in these shades - Huzzah! 

Here is a little edit of pieces I have fallen in love with and I feel like these shades will become my key colours this "summer"/autumn...
