Pleated Party Wear

A strong AW16 trend that cannot go unnoticed is the pleated skirt. If you haven't seen them online/instore/on your bestie or all over your Instagram newsfeed; then where the hell have you been?

I find that these skirts are so easy to dress up or down. They are really versatile and if you haven't invested in one, I suggest you give one a go; I don't think you'll be disappointed! The most common way I have seen these skirts styled is with a pair of flats, brogues or even trainers work and worn with a classic, round neck jumper. It's such a simple, chic look and one that I think I will be channeling come Christmas Day!

If you want to vamp up the pleated skirt and wear it to the office during the day and then to the Christmas party in the evening then simply glam up the footwear and accessories! It's as simple as that.
If you like a heel, go for it but to be honest... if there's a free bar to hand, sometimes flats are better anyway! These skirts suit ankle boots as well and even knee high boots. I told you they were versititle! I glammed this look up by adding a fancy (yet very soft and comfy top), a killer heel, slicking back my hair and adding a slick of red lippy.
Simple yet effective I'd say!

I hope you are all enjoying your festive frolics, let me know on social media what you have been wearing and if you've rocked a pleated skirt this winter.

How to wear an all white outfit this winter

I have a question for you all.

Would you trade your beloved, all black outfit for an entirely white/cream ensemble? If the answer is yes; I have a look that might help inspire you to do exactly that this winter.

We shouldn't just keep white clothes for those hot, summer days. It is a colour that can look extremely classy no matter the time of year and as a plus size girl; it's about time we embraced this colour.

In my opinion, all white/cream outfits look clean, crisp and they have a sort of luxurious vibe about them. I spoke about my love of monochromatic outfits in a previous post (here) and I am totally here for this really cool, yet casual look.

How to wear all white

In regards to style tips, it's pretty simple. If you spot a white item you like, buy it. Build the outfit around that one item. I started with my old ASOS Curve coat which I have worn to death since buying it last year. I then bought the bag whilst browsing online. A few weeks later I was gifted the Converse and then whilst doing my weekly daily ASOS trawl I spotted the Jumper Dress

Try a white Wiggle Dress paired with a minimal Coat.
What about a pair of cream Wide Leg Trousers worn with a simple Cream Tee?
You can't beat a crisp, white Shirt worn with a pair of white Culottes.

Don't forget to finish off your look with all white accessories. I love trainers or chunky brogues for the day and ankle boots or platform heels for the night time. White backpacks, clutches and tote bags are every where at the moment and will help you tie your look together..

The 5 Festive Candles For All Budgets

Every Christmas my dear Mummy (*waves hello*, Mummy I know you're reading this) sends me a candle as a pre-Christmas treat. I always decorate my lounge with a few festive bits and bobs and it wouldn't be the same without a Christmassy candle burning in the background.

I honestly used to severely dislike candles. I thought they were a waste of money and was always secretly disappointed if someone gave one to me as a present. I am now 30 years old and have an entire cupboard in my lounge dedicated to them. Oh how times change!

This year Mum sent me a beautiful Winter Botanical Pilar Candle and I can confirm...it smells delightful! As a self acclaimed candle connoisseur I thought I'd put together a little post of my top 5 festive candles for all budgets.

1. Winter Botanical Pilar Candle - The White Company, £26.00

A spicy scent with cinnamon, cloves and oranges fills your house instantly. I will forever love the fact The White Company include actual fruit/cinnamon pieces in the outer part of their candles meaning you get a Christmassy household decoration as well as a candle. Only the centre part of the candle burns down meaning you can continue to use the candle shell as a little house for tea lights in the future.

2. Perfect Peace - Neom, £30.00

This is one of those super calming candles. I still have this one left over from last year as I only need to burn it for a little while before blowing it out. I tend to be really stingy with burning time when I absolutely love a candle. Apparently this candle has been 'blended to help lift your mood, relieving mental fatigue whilst instilling a sense of calm' and I'd have to agree! The glass it comes in is really gorgeous as well, they've sprinkled it with platinum....oooh fancy ey!

3. Winter Woods - Landon Tyler, £8.00

In my opinion, this is the best candle if you're on a budget. It's smaller than the others listed here but packs just as much of a punch in the scent department. For only £12 you can buy the bigger version and I think this is still really reasonable. This candle does what it says on the tin label. It smells of spruce and pine and all things woody.

4. Apple, Golden Fruit Candle - Anthropologie, £20.00

Not instantly recognisable as a Christmas candle but still up there with my top 5! These beauties from Anthropologie look soooo good as part of your home decor and the soft, subtle scents are really, really nice. I especially like the Apple candle for this time of year as they've mixed apple, warm spices with honey, vanilla and musk. Once the wax burns away you're left with the outer shell and they look so cute sat together as decorations.

Don't want to commit to a big one....oooh er, then go for these bargain beauties! A pack of 12 tea lights which you can spread around the house in cute little festive candle holders. These are great as they smell christmassy without being too over the top. I like the fact you can smell black pepper and lemon when they burn.

Perfect Plus Size Pinstripes

For me, pinstripes used to be synonymous with fuddy duddy suits, the natural choice for mobsters and a favourite for Hollywood actors such as Clark Gable. I never, ever saw the appeal of this fabric and I sure as hell didn't think I'd ever wear it.

Fast forward to 2016 and low and behold, thanks to the cyclical ways of fashion; pinstripes have been resurrected and they are once again, super cool.

I can always guarantee that Elvi will feed me with stand out, fashionable pieces and yet again they have nailed it with this Pinstripe Jacket and Culotte co-ord. I recently had to style myself for a magazine shoot (which will be released in January) and thanks to Elvi, who sent me a gigantic box of their transitional pieces; I looked incredible on the shoot! I wore this pinstripe co-ord and I can't get over how brilliant it is. This, this is the type of fashionable stuff I have wanted to wear for so long. I just can't thank Elvi enough for pushing things forward and providing us with fly as fuck clothing!

My ever evolving style

I can feel my style evolving guys!

For the last few years I have been stalking a few style influencers such as Courtney Rose Butler, Alicia Roddy, Alexandra Douby and even male influencers like my friend Charley Van Purpz. For as long as I've followed them, I have really admired their sense of style. I love how they mix fabrics/shades, combine feminine and masculine shapes, the way they combine colours to create monochromatic outfits and the way they style certain pieces in unexpected ways. You should check them all out on Instagram; I love their pages.

I have long thought "I wish I could dress more like them". I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "But Danie, you can dress how ever you like" BUT if the types of pieces these people wear aren't available for my size body; how am I ever going to emulate their style?

You can make do with what you have but I'm fed up of doing that. I want what everyone else has and I want to be able to dress in the way I truly want to. I don't want my style to be dictated by my size anymore!

Thankfully, I have noticed a real change in the plus size fashion scene. Finally brands are listening to us and providing us with cooler, edgier items. I've really noticed a change in the last 6 months. We still have a long way to go but I am happy with where we are headed. It is no secret that I love straight size brands like COS, Monki, ACNE and ASOS White and I love that they have oversize pieces that we can make work (for that I am grateful) but;  I just want need more!

I am excited for 2017 and the outfits I'll put together, I feel like my style has really come into it's own in the last 12 months and I am looking forward to where the plus size fashion scene takes us all in 2017.
